Powersports Road Hazard Tire Coverage: Understanding Your Coverage

Torque Group • December 11, 2024

If you own a Powersports vehicle like a motorcycle, it’s important to have all the essential coverages to ensure an easy and enjoyable ownership experience. One such coverage is the Powersports Road Hazard Tire Coverage. This dealership program ensures your tire, wheel, and/or rim replacement is covered should it get damaged through any of the road hazards indicated in your program’s terms and conditions.

Now, a lot of owners with this type of coverage get frustrated come the time to reimburse their tire/wheel/rim replacement because they find out later that the road hazard that caused the damage wasn’t included or mentioned in the tire replacement plan’s terms and conditions. This is why it’s important for vehicle owners to read the fine print of the dealership’s proposed coverage before agreeing to purchase it.

Powersports Road Hazard Tire Coverage Stipulations

In a tire replacement plan for Powersports vehicles, the typical road hazards covered are debris, nails, and shards of glass, as mentioned above. Potholes, rocks, scraps of metal and wood, and plastic may also be included in the coverage. It’s important to check the specific road hazards covered by the tire replacement program, so you’ll know if your claims are within your rights.

It’s not enough, however, to know the types of road hazards included in your Powersports Road Hazard Tire Coverage. It’s also not enough to know the claims process, how long the coverage is for, and how much it costs. You must check if there are specific conditions that disqualify your tires from being covered despite being damaged by a road hazard mentioned in the program’s stipulations.

One such condition that could disqualify you from a claim is the state of the tire when it was damaged. There are F&I solutions providers that specifically state that tires with a tread depth of 2/32 of an inch or below it will not be covered because the Tire Industry Association stipulates that tire with this tread depth should already be replaced. If the tire has this tread depth at the time it was damaged by a road hazard, your provider may not cover the replacement.

Make sure you are clear about all the specifics of the tire replacement program before purchasing to make sure you are getting your money’s worth.
