Powersports Extended Service Contract: What’s the Right Fit for Your ATV?

Torque Group • December 15, 2022

Every time you purchase a new vehicle, be it a “regular” car or a powersports machine like an ATV, UTV or motorcycle, you will be offered various other prepaid services and protection plans, which usually includes powersports extended service contract. These are generally offered at dealerships to promote responsible ownership, and at the same time, help owners with the care and maintenance of their vehicle.

It is understandable, however, that you should be a little hesitant about such extra services or plans as these are additional expenses that you might not be ready for. But if there ever comes a time when you will need emergency repairs or parts replacements and your manufacturer’s warranty has already lapsed, you will realize the true value of an extended service contract.

What is a powersports Extended Service Contract?

When you buy a powersports vehicle like an ATV, for instance, you will be provided with a manufacturer’s warranty, which is basically a warranty that states all factory-installed mechanical parts that will be experiencing issues during the coverage period will be repaired or replaced at no cost to you.

Now, you may be wondering why you would need an extended service contract when you already have a manufacturer’s warranty. There are two things to know about an extended service contract. First, it will come in handy when your manufacturer’s warranty has expired, as mentioned above. Secondly, it typically covers parts (repair and/or replacement) that aren’t covered by your manufacturer’s warranty.

In order to determine which powersports extended service contract is the right fit for your ATV, consider the following: parts covered by the manufacturer’s warranty and parts covered by the extended service contract, cost of repairs against cost of the service contract, and general conditions under which the vehicle will be used, i.e. frequency of use and off-road or track conditions.

You, as the vehicle owner, are the only one who can determine whether or not an extended service contract will be worth your money, and if so, which one is the right one for your given how you use your ATV.
